Washburn Bantam XB-500 issues

I recently acquired this instrument at a bargain for two reasons:

I really wanted one when I was a kid
I wanted an inexpensive instrument to learn how to set up.

I have run into two problems. First, the bridge pickup only plays through my amp and not at all through my digitech effects processor.

Second, I know loud is good, but this guy is really loud. So much so that I wonder if someone hotwired the preamp. I don't know if that's a thing being a novice, but something isn't right.

I don't know anything about electronics, and I can't find schematics or dates. I believe it was made between 95 and 97. I don't know if they made them that long.

On a different note, I am spoiled by the 3 band preamp on my six. I was hoping to potentially put one in this thing. Any thoughts?

Thanks. I just thought I'd ask before I took it into the shop.
