Hey everyone. I need a good backup bass now that I have sold all but my loved Cirrus for live shows (just started playing live again). I have never owned a Washburn bass and I like the look of the XB925 and the fact that it has Barts. Are these good basses as far as construction and reliability? I am always concerned with the neck and if I can achieve very low action. Looking forward to any replies. Cheers!
I had one of those 20 years ago. It was a nice bass. Well made and it played fine, but something about it just didn't sit right with me. The neck had a flat profile, if I recall. Just not my cup of tea.
I have an XB900, and the quality is just outstanding. The neck fit is just spot-on perfect, the wood grain and joints are breathtaking, and the neck and frets are flawless. Mine is very light too, but seems to resonate in a way that my USA Fender P bass does not. Where did you find an XB925 in good condition, if you don't mind my asking? And do they have another one available!?
I found it locally (add) but they only have one. What do you think it is worth (looks like very good condition in pics and apparently good neck but I have to check that)? My previous main back up was a gorgeous Jon Hill Huntington Standard but unfortunately it had a neck issue (truss rod froze) and I let it go cheap in a package deal with a *minty* Kawai F11B.
This is the funny thing about the XB900 series. Apparently they were priced really high when new, like more than $1500, but when they come up for sale now, they are always pretty cheap, like $350 to $500. There are always a few for sale on eBay, and if they are more than $500 or so, they just sit there. A screaming bargain if you ask me.
I checked it out this evening. I was impressed with the look but the condition was not what I was expecting. The back had lots of mileage on it - I think it is a 90's bass. The action was way too high as well. The neck looked straight but judging by the saddle height, I had no room to adjust the bass as I like. I did not even plug it in - if a bass does not "feel" good to me right away (and sometimes that can just be and an adjustment) I won't "play it" and walk away. The owner would have taken $500 for it.
