This tower is one town away from me. It was built in 1952 and is a landmark that you pass if you come into the city of Pittsburgh from the airport. View attachment 2979035
You sure that's not the Olympic torch? There's one fairly near me on the outskirts of Dublin city.
Built in 2007, it's 39m(127ft) high and holds 5 million litres.
Apparently it took a few years to enter service as part of the city water supply because it kept leaking, but I believe that's sorted out!
I think it's a pretty cool design.

That makes a lot of sense given there's no water in So. Cal. to put in it, anyway. There's a water tower in town, but it got converted into a house years ago.
I have an idea for a coffee table book now!
I am betting there was never a solid earthquake while it was full of water. The ultimate converted water tower house, Sunset Beach, Ca. Its for rent too.

Maybe, no one on TB will admit to living there?Growing up in South Jersey there were tons of them.
I'm really surprised nobody from that area has posted any.

Actually, there was a very destructive earthquake back in 1933 called the "Long Beach Earthquake". It had a Mag of 6.4 and that fault runs just a few miles east from the water tower. My grandfather survived that quake and talked about it to us grandchildren. According to the plaque below the tower was replaced in the 1940's. Not sure why. Maybe because it was already old at that time.I am betting there was never a solid earthquake while it was full of water.

Nah, we've got a nearby peninsula and several lakes to draw water from. Natural springs within the mountain as well.As we've been driving around the southeastern parts of Texas the last couple weeks, the wife and I have noticed several towns with a large water tower. They usually have the name of the city painted on them, and are not far from the center of town.
We don't recall seeing all that many water towers where we live.
Do you have a water tower in your town?
