Ways to kill time until your new bass gets delivered?

I'm currently in the middle of a multi-year waiting list for a custom bicycle. Yes, that's right, years...when I placed my order the lead time was somewhere around 60 months. There were lots of other folks on that same waiting list asking essentially the same question as the OP: "What do I do while I'm waiting all these years for my custom bike to arrive?"
(Actually, it was more the detractors and naysayers who were asking "What are you fools going to do while you're waiting all these years for your custom bike to arrive?")
And the answer, as AJ Brown so astutely points out, is: BUY MORE BIKES! Or in this case, basses. Just because you have one on order doesn't mean you can't have another in the bag.
Although, seriously dude, 6-8 weeks and you're complaining? HTFU.
Like I've already said: this was not intended to be one of those angry / desperate / OMG! type of topics...I thought it would be an enjoyable occasion to share some of those "I couldn't wait to get my new bass" stories....but hey, my bad!
Here are some ideas to burn time while waiting:
Build a bird house
Learn a foreign language
Become a Mason
Plant a tree and watch it grow
Raise chickens
Go to college
Learn more about Canada
Build a motorcycle
Learn how to be a barber
Grow a garden and run a fruit stand
Become a black belt in karate
lose 50 lbs.

Somehow this one's just a little TOO ironic, given your screen name!!
I recall when I ordered my Clement, I spent a lot of time showing progress pics to friends but that got very annoying to them. Like that person at work who cant stop showing you pics of his/her kids at EVERY step of their development-no matter how minor. (Look-this is 10 month old Junior WITHOUT drool on his lower lip-the doctor tells me that puts him in the 99th percentile for anti-drool development!).
What finally worked for me was my wife giving me a ginormous honey-do list. ( not that I would ever admit it to her!)
Have a 'homecoming' party for it...hey if dogs can have birthdays,what's stopping you from throwing a party?

I buy an SX or a cheap pawnshop bass and overhaul it visually.
Did one a month or so ago, and have a 5-string SX body coming my way from one guy, and a 5-string SX neck coming my way from another for my next project.
Good news is... my inlays are done for my custom bass and the neck is on it's way back to the builder. :: prays USPS doesn't go nuke or something ::

Heh, no biggie, I've done the only logical thing I could think of...now I also own an Ibby BTB700PB, hehe (sweet bass btw) 
instead of focusing on the future and your new bass, focus on the present. It is best to enjoy and appreciate every moment. Wasting time is something you will regret. Just my thoughts on living a happy and meaningful life haha
Play bass. Simple as that
Damn straight!!! Listen to (and play) some of your favorite basslines and think of how you'd like to tweak them and how your new bass may influence them. Work on your chops and apply them to your new baby to give them a whole new new life.
If you live in the city with an alley behind you, a good sling shot and an alley full of rats is great entertainment. Good times for me in the mid-80's in Baltimore

I'm quite happy with my Warwick and I dont forsee ever ordering a custom instrument. Good luck to all those who have to wait
I did not have to wait that long for my 4004cii, just since last summer, I guess it only took 6 months or so.
While I waited, I had other basses to play so it was not a bad wait
The only problem with that is when he gets the bass he'll pawn it for crack so this will totally defeat the purpose.

Seriously, though - it's been about 3 months, and it hasn't really been too bad. I ordered my Status Stealth II 6 string headless in March, after selling off 2 other basses (Warwick Thumb 6 and Steinberger XL-5N) - the hardest part has been only having 2 other basses to play in the meantime!
3 years ago when I placed my order for a G&L L2500, the wait was also about 3-4 months - during that time, I sold a bass (Ric 4001 - red w/black) to finance the new one, and the $$$ was burning a hole in my pocket, so I bought a Lakland 55-01, just 'cuz, well, it was there.....
