Wearing shoes on stage.

I gotta wear shoes. Walking on spilled beer, broken glass, barf, splintered wood stages, cords, and getting stepped on does not appeal to me. Besides, I found these Vans which are comfy as heck...

Chucks hurt to stand in for long periods.

In my high-top chucks, I use one of those insoles for knee or back pain. It works wonders.

Low-cut Chucks have such a short heel, that adding another 1/4" for the insole makes them rub badly. I don't wear my low-cut chucks for gigs.

I also wear these:

In case the pic goes away, it's a pair of black, all-leather combat boots.

The only person allowed to be barefoot on a stage is Henry Rollins.

You forgot Ronnie Van Zandt....RIP.

I've been wearing Rockport ProWalkers for over 10 years...different pairs, mind you...and when they start looking shabby, they're relegated to gig wear. Beats the heck out of Chuck Taylors by a long shot. Couple more years and they're great for yard work. After that, they become dog toys.

I remember seeing Leatherface(British punk band) at the old Club Laga in Pittsburgh and Franky Stubbs the frontman wasn't wearing shoes. He had a habit of jumping up and down violently in the middle of songs and Laga was setup with those "in-the-stage" monitors so half of the surface was metal grates. Needless to say, bare feet, violent jumping, and metal grates don't mix and Franky's feet were literally bleeding by the end of the set.

Still, bloody or not, he kept on jumping and didn't even seem to notice the bloody footprints he was leaving all over the stage. It might have been the most genuinely hardcore thing I'd ever seen at a show.

drumming i sometimes play barefoot. its consistent. my foot will always feel the same against a foot pedal, and a strange pair of shoes can sometimes make something feel a bit off. not really a "big" deal, though.

generally.. yeah..shoes.

Neil Peart plays with ballet style dance shoes..
