Double Bass Weedwacker E String

Hello, I have Weedwacker strings on my Engelhardt ES9. I'm happy with all the strings except the E. Can I put an A string in place of the E and tune it to E? OK I confess I have florescent Pink on her. Any suggestions?

In my experience, "wacker E string" is a synonym for "hopeless." You could bump a steel A over to E, but even that is a big difference in terms of sound and feel. A better option might be an Innovation or other synthetic string on the bottom. If you have $140 and some time to kill, Lambert Gut Twins are impressive fake gut strings. They do not come in pink, unfortunately.

Thank you to all three replys. 1st the E has no resonance. It has a nice slap sound but no tone. Don't have the $140, it's Christmas, so I'll take a close look at the supernil E. don't care about the color too much, did when I bought the pink, now I'm more concerend about sound. Down the road I'll probably change strings again.

Thanks for the feed back, I'm purchasing from FMI another E, (florescent pink, kevlar core) don't laugh. Tom there recommended I tune my A to E to try it out. I' OK with it. So I'll try that for awhile, then if I go crazy I'll try the steel, then a whole new set. I guess the E stands for Energy and Expense. Hello, I was thinning out an old bridge to set up my home bass with weed wackers and went way too far with the sanding ( belt sander... no fear) and ended up 1mm thick at the top of the bridge! i cut the string grooves and fitted it anyway. surprise, it didn't bend or break but more importantly i got a hell of a lot more sound and sustain from all strings, especially noticeable for the E. I realised that lower tension means we don't need such a strong bridge and because it's lighter, it can transmit vibrations to the body more easilly. Repeated the same thing on my gig bass (without going quite so far) and got a very nice result for the same strings. More response and more sustain all around.
