Double Bass Weedwackers on EUBs

How well do weedwackers on EUBs? I never realized weedwackers were so cheap. They're less than some electric strings.

I've been using GHS cross overs on my Ns Wav 4 but I'm not a fan of them so far. They've made my fretless buzz worse. I'm still working on breaking them in but I'm probably going to put the stock strings back on.

My Ns will get old innovation super silvers next time I change my upright, but weedwacks could be a cheap set to try until then.

Does your EUB have a magnetic pickup that requires ferrous metal in the stings? If so, weedwackers and for that matter, Innovation strings, will not work because they do not have sufficient amounts of ferrous metal in them to activate magnetic pickups.

Piezo pickups and of course microphones will be fine with both weedwacker and Innovation strings.

It's piezo only. I know they'll work, I was just wondering if they'll sound good. My main issue is that I have too much mwah and not enough thump

I tried the premium version on a Warwick Triumph lite (piezo only) and was pleased with the thump.
Since then I’ve switched to Evah pirazzi slap; a better but similar tone for 5x the price, and easier to bow.

How high/low is your action set? I have no problem with fretless-type buzz on my WAV4 with Crossovers, but my teacher advised me a while back to lower my action because I don't play arco on that one.

I've never tried weedwackers, but I did ask about using them to explore slap/rockabilly a while back. The answer was that, without the resonating chamber an acoustic has, they don't sound so good. That said, if they're that cheap, you may as well try it and find out.

My bridge is as high as I can raise it but my nut is low. The bridge really isn't high but the screws are really tight. My d nut slot is so low it buzzes on open d. I think the combination of my low nut, the smaller string diameter, and the half round of the crossovers made the problem worse than the thicker flatwound stock strings. The crossovers also seen brighter to me but that could just be me noticing the mwah more. I run my tone 100% with the cross overs and 50% with the stock strings
