I feel kinda stupid asking this, so don't judge me: Can you take the effect output of a head and put it into the effect return of a combo in order to utilize the tone capabilities from that head? This is of course assuming that the head can be used under no load. If so, this could save me from having to tote a 610 to certain venues.

It helps to have both amps connected to the same power outlet. Otherwise there can be a ground loop hum. In patching the amps together, depending on their design, you may be connecting the two chassis together.
