Weird/cable problem with new Dimarzio pickups? (Jazz Bass)

Hi

Well this the history:

I recently have installed a pair of dimarzio pickups in a MIM fender jazz bass, because the original died months ago :bawl:, so, I decided to install a new set of pickups in this case a Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pair, following the basic diagram they have and after researching a bit before, but well, after install and soldering, in the first quick test it worked pretty well and sounds really nice :bassist:, but after testing the pots and trying to blend the tones I noticed that the bridge and neck pots controls only the volume of each one respectively, and the volume pot controls the tone of the pickups at the same instead of.... volume! :confused: ; now the thing is, before, with the original pickups configuration each tone pot used to control the tone respectively (neck or bridge) and the volume pot used to work as a master volume, now look like they're inverted :eyebrow:, can someone help with this, please? :help: Thanks in advance

That's what they are supposed to do. :confused:

Instead of? That contradicts what you said about only controlling volume. Unless you meant that they affect tone in addition to volume. If that's the case, that is the nature of a volume pot in a setup with multiple volumes, since the pots must vary input impedance against the pickup coils. If you are losing treble, you might consider placing a small capacitor across the terminals to bleed treble as you roll down.

There is no master volume pot in the diagram you posted. There is also only one tone pot.
 
Master volume? :confused:

You should end up with two individual volumes and and one tone. If not, they're clearly wired wrong.

EDIT: rereading the OP, if your pre-swap controls were in fact as you describe, then somebody wired them up wrong. It doesn't make sense to be able to control individual tones but not volumes.
 
Oh you're right bassmanbiff, now that you say it I noticed that point, that is master tone and no master volume D: oh my bad I havent noticed that before, thanks, but in that way, so which will be the correct diagram for the behaviour that I describe?

There is only one way to do one volume and two tones with no pickup selector, if you intend to stay passive.
Because tone pots operate parallel to the signal path, it is not possible to have a tone pot for each pickup if the pickups are parallel to each other. You will have to isolate the pickups by running resistors in series with their outputs, to increase the resistance between each pickup and the other pickup's tone capacitor. This will cost you some output, however, as the resistors will resist the flow of electrons from the pickups to the volume pot.
