Weird computer freeze-up problem

I was watching some Matt Damon movie last night, and all of a sudden the computer just froze. No blue or black screen, just froze. I didn't take it too seriously and just unplugged it and took out the battery and went to sleep. This morning, I turned my computer on, and everything was fine, but it froze when I was typing an email. So I forced shut down, and started in Safe Mode, tried to type the email again, and it froze again. Then I did System Restore, and then tried again, and it still froze within a few minutes. I don't know what to do.... Someone please help, school starts in two days and I need to get it working again.

It's either overheating or you have a stick of RAM going bad.

My bet is RAM. If you have more than one stick, take one out and see if it happens.

It's a known bug with Matt Damon . . . I really dont know what it could be tho, sorry

+1 for the RAM card idea. Pull it/them out and reseat them (with the pc turned off). Try to restart and see what happens. It sounds like a memory issue to me.

Have you installed anything lately? Have you updated anything?

Make a cd and boot from it, let it run for a few passes. If there are any errors at all, it's a memory problem.

Yep, it's a RAM problem. I did a memory test, and the RAM chip in DIMM_A turned out to be broken (and thus causing all the problems). I took that out, and put in a new one, and everything's fine so far...
