Weird Japanese Ebay Bass Mystery

I recently bought a 32" passive P/J bass from Japan off of ebay.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I was a little disappointed at how banged up it was despite the seemingly flawless pics but I am overall pleased. Anyhow I did a little searching on the internet and found what appears to be my neck (note serial number) with a different body (Bottome pics: see crack in bottom strap button). The obvious explanation is that somone changed the body but it seems weird that they would take the time to find the exact bass as its a somewhat rare model. Just getting your thoughts. Anyhow, this is why I dislike buying used sometimes. You just never know.

Yes, there certainly was. There was no "question mark" but he was clearly asking for our ideas on how it could have appeared to have a crack in the past but none now..."Just getting your thoughts.".

Yet he got one response of what model it was, your response of damage during shipping (which means you didn't understand his post), and one response of how the crack might have originally occurred. And then my unnecessary wise-*** musing.

One guy thought it was a P bass lyte.

I thought the OP was mistaken regarding a body switch and pointed out evidence to support an alternate theory.

Another person proposed an additional alternate theory of how the body might be the same one.

And apparently you think the three of us missed the original question, which was never explicitly asked. However, we seem to have to have answered his exact implicit question which you have pointed out, yet failed to respond to.

dude, you asked wether the crack was caused during shipping, when in fact the crack is gone now... re read the original post...
maybe you meant to say the crack was repaired during shipping? :smug:

Okay, um, I'll try smaller words.
While not asked in this exact phrasing, the question was pretty clearly "how could this situation have happened?".

Yes, he "got our thoughts" but they were not thoughts that would answer his question. "It's a P-Bass Lyte" is completely unrelated to the question. "caused during shipping" makes no sense since he clearly said it was cracked BEFORE shipping and fine AFTER. "Overtightening the screw", the same, unless he was implying that screwing down harder would FIX the crack.

My response is "I was going to post that maybe it's just a strange reflection in the old photo, like a seam in the table it's sitting on, but now that I look more closely I doubt that's the case. But whoo boy, look at all these other responses from people who didn't read very carefully!"

also, i think the answer may be "carrots".
