weird japanese sgc nanyo bass

i have had this very odd looking japanese bass for ages. i guess it kinda reminded me of some of the crazier pointy designs of the 80's with a very futuristic look. the style is very japanese and i think it looks cool (i love pointy weird looking designs).

i have google it before when i bought it but i found nothing on it. until recently that is. i found the sgc nanyo bass collection thread but that was completely different to the one i owned. turns out someone else on talkbass has the same bass only in red.

so without further waiting

the tuners it came with were gotoh's so i left them on

a k&m jazz pickup, left original cause it isn't too bad.

now this is really where it gets strange. the bridge is unlike any other i have seen. the string height is set using a screwdriver which is very different to the badass bridges i am used to

Yeah, my music room is rather dark and it isn't that clear

i like its eighties style and it does make you think of all those strange pointy guitars from the eighties. i think carvin, bc rich, jackson when i look at this, only it has a japanesey look to it which i likes. they are pretty adventurous with guitar design sometimes

Yes, I have one w/a 2 octave neck in black and a body style similiar to an Ibanez Sound Gear. It has active electronics with a (I think) two band EQ knob, total 4 knobs.

The Gotoh bridge on mine is exactly what was put on Soound Gears in the late 80s and harder to find than the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch and Greys put together.

I've been trying to find one for the Ibanez and can't even find a website for Gotoh; I guess they hide behind manufacturers and distributors. If I re-scale them, I'll put up a couple pics of the bridge and exploded saddles. There's 46 individual pieces to this thing; probably would cost a couple hundred dollars now a days.

Hey... pretty neat deal with those tuners... they are "swept"... like the wings of a Navy carrier plane might be. Can't be sure by looking at the pic, but how many frets exactly? 23 or 24 maybe? Rosewood fretboard or something else?

Or many non-Navy planes- including the Burgess-Dunne biplanes of pre-WW-I, and several German WW-II experimental & production jets(and a rocket-powered plane or two).
Also like Warwick tuners.
Lastly, in the mid-80s, this was not considered 'weird'

I like the bridge.

Edit: Even my bad old eyes can count 24 frets in the first pic(OK, somebody stop me..).

Doesn't sound too dangerous. Why do you want to burn him? Is murder against a rule here, or are we OK with that sort of thing? I think what you have there is a bass that could be used to help you murder Gerorge S Bush, or at least beat and poke him into submission prior to his burning. Do you have something particular against him, or you have an axe to grind against the Saturday Evening Post? Better Homes and Gardens refuse to do a feature on your hovel? What was it that sent you over the edge? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am that stupid guy who runs back in the house as the zombies are closing in, because he needs to get his wallet. The Zombie Thread got me. At least I'm not the only one. At least I can salvage the situation by picking on your grammar.

Now that I look at it, the argument could be made that the use of "troll's" was legitimate, in the context of stating the poster's name and signature belonged to a troll, the OP in this case. I can't even pick on your grammar. I have wasted these several minutes of my life for naught.

I think the bridge looks rather cool, though. That's at least almost on topic.
