Weird Popping when playing

The real question should be, what are the Traynor's RMS ratings? RMS is the one to go by. The criteria for determining "Program Power" is so widely varied as to be pretty much meaningless.
It would be nice if manufacturer's could actually stick to one of the standards developed for testing RMS power, instead of inflating their specs all the time.
 
Reading this forum for as long as I have, I've picked up on some "do's and Don'ts" and figured I had myself covered.

The max my amp will push is 500w at 4ohm.. the cabs are rated at 400w (program) each... at the volume I was running, there was absolutely no way I was pushing even close to 250w to each speaker. On the rare occasion I run a single cab.. my volume is even lower (350w into 8ohm load)

I guess I'm just surprised that both of these cabs failed at the same time under what would be considered as far from abuse as you could imagine. I had a lot of faith in my Traynor gear and this is the first real problem I've ever had with any of my Traynor stuff... ever! I'm confident that they will be repaired and be playable again, however, I feel like I've lost a bit of faith in the brand having both fail simultaneously.

Forget the wattage rating for your speakers (the thermal rating where the voice coil will melt). What really matters is the displacement limitation, which manufacturers are loathe to inform you with because it is typically about half the wattage rating.

Any amount of watts above the displacement limitation is going to be wasted. The speakers won't produce any more volume, but they will fart out or blow.

If the cabs' listed wattage rating was 400 watts, expect them to only handle about 200 watts each before you risk blowing them. Of course it will take even more than 400 watts to melt the voice coils, but that's not what your problem was.

There is a reason manufacturers list wattage rating and also why so many experts here keep telling people watts don't matter. Nobody wants to listen because high wattage ratings sound cool and impressive...and manufacturers' marketing departments know this.
