Weird Problem Warwick RockBass

I've had this 2005 MIC RockBass for a couple of years. I last played it a year or so ago. It was perfect. I get it out today, again perfect, with one exception. The A string was considerably quieter than the other 3 strings. It was half volume and girth of the others. Run the E, D or G, perfect. Hit the A, it was like the volume was immediately cut in half. My first thought was a bad string, even though the ones on it are about a year old with little use. So I put a brand new, but different brand, identical string on it. No change. I checked the active control and changed the battery, still no improvement. Its got the stock MEC pick-ups with the PJ arrangement. It's weird that with no poles to adjust or anything being different with the flat smooth pick-up, just this one string is losing a tremendous amount of volume compared to the others. I'm baffled. Any suggestions?
