Weird Warwick trussrod

I recently aquired a 94 Warwick Thumb NT4 and of course I was in a hurry to set it up. Starting with the truss rod, I was not able to get the neck relief less than 0.6 mm with the truss rod at it's limit. Of course I was upset and kept thinking how to fix that problem. I reminded that in several Warwicks, to tighten the neck they go anti clockwise, so I extracted the trussrod (extractible for the models before 96) and turn it 180 degrees. Guess what, I was able to get the relief I want (by tightening anti clockwise) with a lot of margin in the trussrod. Now I set it up the way I want it, with l9west action possible with no fret buzz. Is that common?

Yup, you can just flip the rod on Spectors and Warwick because of the angle of the headstock, once it's maxed out one way.

You can even swap it to a real dual action truss rod like this one, and you can adjust the relief both ways without maxing it out and without flipping the rod again.

But this one what you have is looks like a real dual action rod to me but I'm not sure. Someone might flipped it for a reason. But if it's a real two way, you dint need to do that. You just need to remember which way is more and which way is less relief.

Thanks, I asked Warwick and get an answer 30mn ago, there's a squared ring in the trussrod that dont has to be there, so I will reinstall it the right way without it and check again.

Ahh that'd make sense. That squared ring might prevented the rod to 'expand' preventing it to straighten the neck more.

I get exactly the same result without it so I will flip it again tonight.

Ok now, I have to deal with it, The trussrod is flipped, I tighten counterclockwise, I have a beautiful relief of 0.25mm @ 7th fret while fretting the first and the last fret. My action now is @ 1.25mm @ 12th fret while fretting the first fret. I leave the alone now to rest and go get a beer.
