Welcome Back. Site outage Information

Hi admins :)

I'm so sorry for the massive downtime. A power outage, generator fire, fire surpression damage, and global chip/hardware shortage created a logistical nightmare for our server admin team.

Could be worse! Imagine that happening during a pandemic..:roflmao:

Great job!

may the bass be with you

I have worked in IT for a long time and have been there more times than I care to admit. If you got back up with zero data loss, that is a huge victory.

I also realized what a gem Talk Bass really is. I started a thread on The Gear Page and...man, that place sucks.. Their framework is stuck in 2005. The people aren't nearly as awesome. Happy to have TB back.

Welcome back!

I'm so sorry for the massive downtime. A power outage, generator fire, fire surpression damage, and global chip/hardware shortage created a logistical nightmare for our server admin team. Info coming out of the datacenter was sporadic, and from each day to the next we had to make a best guess decision on what would get us online the fastest.

Our server management company has been fantastic through all of this (AdminGeekz). They not only came through with our automatic daily backups (offsite), but they got the datacenter to take the time to pull our SSD drives from our old servers, dry them out, and remount them so that we now have all data up to the time of the fire (instead of missing 12-24 hours since the last auto backup).

Going forward we are investing in additional live server backups across the country so if a whole datacenter goes up in flames again we shouldn’t be offline for so long.

Known Issues:

  • Supporting Members!: If you had a PayPal recurring payment happen during the outage, at this point I’m not sure if your TB account will be automatically updated with your new subscription. Please contact us and we’ll get you sorted. We appreciate your patience through all of this, but if you'd like the downtime added to your subscription term, please contact us. Contact Us
  • Classifieds Thumbnails: Are blank now. Working on this.
  • Unexpected Database Errors: We're tweaking MySQL database to work out these errors.
  • Other Misc Errors: Please be patient as we get our new server optimized

More to come…
Hallelujah!

Recently retired enterprise-level IT guy here. All that matters is you got it back up with no loss of data. That’s as much as anyone could hope for or be expected to do. So no apologies are needed. Also props for provisioning for multi location realtime backups. Those can make all the difference in the world between partial and complete chaos.

Also thanks for the offer to credit supporting memberships for the downtime. In my case, don’t bother. You’re welcome to keep it. You’ve had enough go down recently that you don’t deserve to take a financial hit on top of everything else.

Best going forward. It’s good to get our old rooms back.

It's so good to be back! Really missed hearing the bass motivations of my fellows here!

Thanks to you and everyone involved in restoring everything and getting TalkBass back up and running again! We don't tell you enough how much we all appreciate everything you do for us in running this outfit for all of us here.

So again, thank you! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
