Welcome Back. Site outage Information

Thank you Paul and team. You survived the “Smoking black hole” Disaster Recovery/Business Continuance experience. We should all be indoctrinated by it as a right of passage in hosting. It builds character.

I’ve lived through one of these in my profession that had not such a good outcome and you should be proud that it came off right and good. Nice work - good form! The SSD’s? That’s a great bonus. Make nice with those HostAdmin guys, they’re worth it. Glad you can exhale now. Thanks for what you do. -Chris

When Talkbass was down.

The forum went down exactly when I needed to get some bass advice. That was tough!

When I searched for some sort of info around Tuesday-Wednesday, I found a Reddit thread about the melt down. I also quickly found posts within that thread trash-talking JimmyM and P-basses with tort...

Talkbass will always exist, even without TalkBass.

Welcome back!

I'm so sorry for the massive downtime. A power outage, generator fire, fire surpression damage, and global chip/hardware shortage created a logistical nightmare for our server admin team. Info coming out of the datacenter was sporadic, and from each day to the next we had to make a best guess decision on what would get us online the fastest.

Our server management company has been fantastic through all of this (AdminGeekz). They not only came through with our automatic daily backups (offsite), but they got the datacenter to take the time to pull our SSD drives from our old servers, dry them out, and remount them so that we now have all data up to the time of the fire (instead of missing 12-24 hours since the last auto backup).

Going forward we are investing in additional live server backups across the country so if a whole datacenter goes up in flames again we shouldn’t be offline for so long.

Known Issues:

  • Supporting Members!: If you had a PayPal recurring payment happen during the outage, at this point I’m not sure if your TB account will be automatically updated with your new subscription. Please contact us and we’ll get you sorted. We appreciate your patience through all of this, but if you'd like the downtime added to your subscription term, please contact us. Contact Us
  • Classifieds Thumbnails: Are blank now. Working on this.
  • Unexpected Database Errors: We're tweaking MySQL database to work out these errors.
  • Other Misc Errors: Please be patient as we get our new server optimized

More to come…

Congrats and thanks, Paul.
