Hello all...my name is Ambyr and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I am a complete nooblet to the bass world, only have played for about 4 hours on my ex's bass a few years back. I have one of those take me out-o-the box and play deals coming soon...but not soon enough, been bouncing off the walls since I ordered the damn thing...I have it pretty bad for this bass, can't eat, can't sleep just want to touch it and *drool* anyway...I'm excited :hyper:

I found this site yesterday during my mind numbing search on the interwebz about everything bass....this was to distract me from my excitement, but has made things worse. I'm glad I found TalkBass though, seems like there are a variety of people at many different experience levels and what-not. I'm looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you from the very first day that thing gets into my lil hands.

I'm taking this whole thing very seriously, I'm fortunate not to have to work so I'm going to dedicate 4 hours (at least) to learning my new bass. Another 4 hours to working out so I can stay in tip top shape and keep the back in good working order. Of course my mind is floating to all sorts of thoughts and dreams now...I don't expect to be some rock star, but I am hoping I'll be good enough someday to play with others and for others.

The bass is hot and to me ignites a whole rush of feelings inside me that just do the body good, and the thought of making those feelings flow through another just by playing for them...well...the thought is very satisfying. That may sound weird, but that's what music does for me and that's why I'm here.

Other than that...I love to surf and body-board...I love to cook and I'm f-ing good at it, but I don't do it for myself only for those it makes happy, and I make stuff out of whatever I can get my hands on.

I look forward to making some friends on here and getting to know you guys/gals.

I have to admit your compliments and comments give me only more fuel for the fire that will make me work even harder for this to happen. Thank you for the encouragement...I really hope this package comes soon otherwise I'm going to float away...

Thank you...I'm glad to be here and oh how true that is...already have a couple things after looking around that I'm keeping in mind.

lol...yes I feel rather strongly about the topic :D and thank you for the welcome. I've been reading through the forums, though I don't have any clue at the moment what all the terminology is. When I sit down with my instruction dvd and my teacher at least when they go through it I may have that A Ha! moment just a little quicker after studying a little through what everyone has provided on here.

you've been warned.

first bit of unsolicited advice: that starter package bass will need a good set up before it is really playable. it is worth it to those "lil hands" of yours to get the bass in its best shape possible.

second bit: watch out for TBOT....

I always like to come prepared...heck I don't ever leave home without a towel.

Could you just spin me in the right direction on where I can find info. on doing that...or any tips you might have been thinking of...because so far today I learned that if I want that deadstring sound I should either: A: Rub it nice and good with butter B: Marinate in BBQ Sauce C: Buy A Tub o Fried Chickie eat said chickie then wipe greasy hands all over string or well it just went from there but I'm not kidding I really saw that somewhere in our forums.

depends on if you want to get it professionally set up or learn to do it yourself. if you want to learn, do a search on here for 'setup', and you'll find a lot of useless stuff and be able to figure out how to do it, but it'll probably take you longer to find than it would to do. if you want it professionally set up, look for a music store in town and check to see if they do set ups.

Flatwounds are definitely worth trying if you want that dead string sound.
