Whammy on a bass?

I know Les Claypool had a whammy on one of his warwicks.

:rollno: Les don't play Warwicks.

Yes, tremolos actually aren't that crazy of an idea on bass. And said man has been using it for 20 years with excellence. There are others too, here on TB and just around. I plan on getting one soon.
Here's an example...

Also, if you get a chance, check out Sausage (Claypool side project from years passed). Has some heavy use of tremolo on some songs, particularly the song Recreating.

In addition to Colonel Claypool, Victor Wooten has a Kahler tremolo on one of his basses. Hipshot makes an amazing bass tremolo that I intend to pick up sooner or later.
For a while, some of Washburn's "Bantam" line of basses came with Tremolos, and that was like, last year. Dunno if they still do, though.

plus 1 on the wicks :scowl:

Johnny Brown is my personal go to guy for major mods and decisions, excellent man and luthier, basses are the finest I've ever played, and deliver on the hefty price tag.

but aside from the selfless promotion, yes, basses with whammies are more common than you think, you just have to look outside normal muzickz

Warwick? Warwick doesn't hand-make a Geddy Lee signature bass, dude.

Why a whammy on a fretless?

-----

And where is Strange?

To make you ask this question. :)
To me it make more sense than the bass clef inlay. If people don't know it's a bass, it can't be explained(or shouldn't ;)).
Seriously, I could make use of a whammy on a fretless- bending down on open & false harmonics, sliding w/fingers & adding vibrato, etc.

Edit: I have no idea where Strange is.

Mostly it's just a toy, but you can do the dive bombs (same as fretted) and make nicer vibratos. Propably with a little more effort and creativity one could find some other cool ways to use it but for now I've had enough challenge to learn the basics of playing fretless:)

Well, that looks like a nice little starter fretless. :)
