What do you play? My buddy has the Yamaha and plays in a metal band and really likes it, heavier than the Ibanez. I noodled around on the Ibanez in a store and it is thin everywhere! Both are very fast basses with pretty tight spacing(Ibanez might be tighter, so harder to slap/pop if you're into that). Don't have any experience in the others, lot of people like Peavey's though. PS I like 4 strings but if it's your first 5, take a chance and branch out. A 5 is next on my list... sorta.

Go for the Millenium AC BXP. They use the same pickups as the Cirrus. For the money you are looking at spending I would say look into something used. I just picked up a an Ibanez BTB 555 in mint condition with a HS case for $255. The BTB's are some exceedingly good players. The vari-mid EQ lets you dial in all kinds of sounds. I don't know if your looking for small necks... I really found myself liking the huge neck on the BTB it only took a couple days to get used to it.

Also for what you are looking at spending You might want to look at the Brice five strings over at Rondo, or if you hurry you can work a price match at Music 123 for a Warwick Rockbass. zZounds has had them for around $399. The price match should get you out the door for under $300. The Warwick will blow your other choices out of the water and your friends will be envious.
