Double Bass what about LaBella Supernills?

I ordered one today and will likely give it a go after I finish an upcoming recording project. I'm excited by the prospect that it may be even thicker then the Garbo light. I'd imagine that the slap will be harsher, but thats a compromise I'm willing to make. I'll report back my findings; its difficult to find a usable E to match up with a plain gut A.

Hey Kent, the Innovation 140H Honeys have a solid nylon core with a very smooth stainless wrap. The solid core gives the strings some stiffness so they aren't floppy while still being lower tension and the metal wrap gives them a little bit of edge and click. They bow really nicely too. ;)
Hey Jake,,Fretwell was in town this week,,I went and played every string he has,,I found the Inovations braided solos tuned down work with guts best of all,,really nice sound and tension is exactly the same,,check em out,Kent

Sounds like you had a good time! ;)

The Innovation 140B Solo Gauge eh? Thanks!

So, I'm currently trying out the 140b solo bottoms (F# + B) with Gamut gut tops. I need to gig test them, but I'm tentatively very impressed. They have a nice tension at gut string height and are surprisingly loud, punchy, fat, and clear. As superman said, they match gut very well in feel and timbre. Arco, they are different from gut, but bow very nicely. They roll under the stick, but I can live with it.

Pizz and arco, I like them much better than the Garbo lights I was using (at least in the practice room.) After being traumatized by Obligatos, I never thought I'd go back to perlon cores, but I'm coming around. The Gabros slap better (copper vs. steel click) and look like wound gut, but these oddball sensicore-clones get me closer to the sound I'm looking for. I'll report back after some rehearsals and a gig test.

Strangely enough, I just ordered a set of Inno 140b Solos (and stangely enough, from Fretwell)...looking foward to seeing how they do on my old German laminate. I've been using the Evah Pirazzi Solos on my older Kay and that's really been nice for everything...slap, pizz and arco...but I've had several friends who reccomended the Innos so I'm trying those as well. I'll chime in with my impressions when I get them played in!

Finally went on and ordered the Innovations. I had originally planned on getting the 140SS but I decided for some unknown reason ( really :hmm: ) went with the lower tension 140 SLP and they seem to be working out really well for me. Only so far played around in the studio with them and made comparisons with tracks done with Obligatos and the SLP's seem to have a more old school solid attack to them and the roll factor seems negligible if non existent compared to the Super Nyls . Soon as the back surgery thing is "off my back" hopefully can get a little more serious and see how they round out with a full band.. There is a steel player that I sometimes work with that seems to have a little trouble controlling his volume so that will be the test for un plugged volume.

Thanks to all for the ideas and reviews on all the strings!!
Sure helps narrow things down somewhat :)
