What amp are you using with your Schroeder Cabinet

My current rig is an SVT pro 5, a Shro 21012L and a Shro BMF1215. I run stereo out of the SVT since the cabs are 4 ohms a piece. I'm getting about 400 watts per side, according to the Ampeg's manual. This is my outdoor, big stage, most volume rig. Inside I can run bridged and only run one cab, if I don't need massive volume. I'm considering going lighter weight (class D) amp setup. I'm looking hard at the Shuttle Max 12, but I'm a little concerned about how the SM will sound with the Shroeder cabs. I'd like to hear what amps you Schroeder cab guys are using and I'd like to hear you're opinions on what amp may be best suited for these cabs. It's a failry new setup to me and I've only got a couple gigs on it.

I just plugged my new SM 12.0 into my 2x15 BMF in the house the other day after getting the cab out of storage- wow! I haven't gigged it yet but am excited for this weekend, when I will give it a spin in a club. I have previously used this cab with a B4R with great results. The Shuttlemax is more "Hifi" sounding for sure- the highs are sharper, the high mids are not as exaggerated as on the ampeg, but the EQ on these amps is very powerful, and you can dial "in" or "back" any frequencies you like. The key, as always, is to find where you need to boost or cut. I haven't really played with this with the schro yet. The SM 12.0 doesn't have a bridge mode, so if you used only one cab, it would be at 600 watts. I know I probably won't come close to "dime-ing" the amp in the small venues I play in ( I might have been just as well off with a 9.0) but this detail maybe meaningful to you. Running at two ohms, it's hard to imagine a situation it couldn't cover with decent cabs. The power out of this six pound box is FOR REAL. But if you just have to use 800- 1200 watts through one cab, the SM 12 is not for you. Of course, you could rack it with a Stewart or Crown drivecore and still be well under 20 lbs.

Guess I should have specified. I play classic rock and new country. Beatles to Billy Currington. My guitar player plays Matchless, Dr Z, Germino, and Marshall; whatever suits him that day. He likes to let them breathe, so I need volume. I figured the SM at 600 a side with both Shros, or 600 into one side, (depending on the venue) would be the ticket. Maybe the Carvin BX1500 would be an alternantive to that. Or, Maybe an Eden WT800. Just trying to get a feel for what amp works best with these cabs, before I spend (or waste) a bunch of $$$$. I'm so cheap!

I have owned about 5 schroes in the past (check my profile for models). In my experinece those cabs do NOT do well with GB shuttles as both are a little lite in the lows.

The bx1500 is a great amp and has a ton of tone shaping capibilities to get your sound.
The gkmb800 is a very loud amp, that sounds super nice.

I think its very important to have warm sounding amps with schroeder cabs. The SABDDI sounds very good with a schroeder too. Pair that up with a power amp and it will do you well.

I didn't see any BMFs in your profile- they sound much different than Jorg's angled baffle design. I wouldn't have bought my 2x15 if this weren't the case. I've played through 410 and 412 versions of his angled baffle design and did not like the sound. Not enough low fundamental on the B string, too much mids. The BMF brings plenty of low end, and much crisper highs than the 2x15s I used in the eighties (Peavey). With the Ampeg it sounded nice and scooped and warm. The highs have are much sharper with the SM, it definitely sounds different, but there is no "lacking" in the low end. Which cab do you use for smaller gigs? I would imagine the BMF, because of the footprint. It might very well sound terrible with your other Schroeder. I dunno, I bought my 12.0 six months ago, when prices were somewhat higher, and I still consider it to be an excellent value- it gets the seal of approval from this tightwad!

I also had a 1212BMF and a newer 1515 (can't remember the model). Both were highly exaggerated in the low-mids and had what one might call tight lows, but yeah not as extreme as the classic series. The 1515 was brutally bad as the tone was undefined, boomy and yet no decent lowend. I used it just a few times and flipped it. One band leader actually told me to never use that cab with him again. Couldnt stand that one. However I did use a 1212R for a couple years and I liked it. It was solid sounding and extremely punchy and sounded great with a *warm* amp. I owned a Shuttle 6 with that cab and yuck didnt like the combo at all. On the other hand the LMII matches very well with that cab.

These days I use a fEARful 15/6 which sound fantastic, weighs 20LBS less, and has big deep, clear lows (if you want them). Very different from the schroeder sound.

Me too! I used a Markbass Sa450. I put that in a Carvin amp case, and it still moved around. I now have relatively high density/resiliency foam under it. It works. I love the sound of the Markbass with my 21012BMF. It's not my main rig, but it sure does kick a$$.

I used an LMII for about two years (into a 1212L). Sounded nice but I wanted something prettier. . . The LMII sounded a bit unrefined and "blah" to me.

The last two years I switched to a G-K MB200 and I really love that combination, because the 1212L can use the extended low end and high end of the G-K sound, and it sound more refined and wet. I love it. 200W into the 700W of the 1212L are good enough 95% of the time, but an MB500 would really shine.

I also tried a GB Shuttle 6.0 for a few weeks, and I thought that was too hi-fi for my taste. The tweeter in the 1212L is powerful. . .

I'm actually in the market for a new head because I wanted something with a built in compressor and more power.
