What are these basses in these songs?

Longtime lurker first time poster.

I am in the market for a new bass and I have some songs that I like the bass tone on. I know that amps and recording style lend a lot to tone, but the bass is the base (heh) of the tone.

Anywho, can you guys tell me what basses these songs sound like?

Bill Withers - Lovely Day
Coldplay parachutes CD
Pink Floyd - dark side of the moon CD
Hot Hot Heat - Make-up the breakdown
Earlier Stone Temple Pilots (Core and Purple)

I have a sneaking suspicion that they all are P-basses or something similar.

id also say theyre P's or atleast most of em.....i think STP uses a Jazz.....but Id check Wiki if I were you to make sure...

By the way, sometimes it's impossible to say what kind of bass did they use. Every sound engineer/producer can change the sound noticeably. I don't remember exactly who said this but someone used two basses in the studio - a modern sounding ZON with graphite neck and an old P-Bass with flatwounds. After the songs were mixed and mastered he couldn't notice the difference between the sounds of those two basses.

STP is a schecter model T which has a P bass neck pickup and a jazz bridge pickup, at least thats what the wiki says.

I can ALMOST make out what bass the Coldplay guy is using. A fender for sure though (or clone).

I think Roger Waters and David Gilmour used a Fender Precision when recording Floyd basslines.
