I think I'm going to start Churchill's series on WW-2. I've got an old set that belonged to my father and I want to check them out.

I've got his entire collected works mere feet from me, and I read it years ago. This one does not ring a bell. How is it? I should re-visit Poe (and plenty of others!) sometime. Of course, I should also visit many other books and authors for the first time!I'm reading The Unparalleled Adventures of One Hans Pfaal by Edgar Allan Poe. Quite interesting so far.
I'm pretty sure I read that a LONG time ago. We have a Poe compendium that has that story in it, I believe. Reading the synopsis, I do recall it.I'm reading The Unparalleled Adventures of One Hans Pfaal by Edgar Allan Poe. Quite interesting so far.
Been reading current sci fi:
About a quarter of the way through Velocity Weapon by Megan O'Keefe and recently finished Paradise by David Wellington. Both appear to be the starts of new series.
Also reading On Tyranny, by Timothy Snyder, and The Obsolescence of the Human, by Günther Anders. The latter was written in the fifties, but is incredibly timely.
It's fun! Good world-building, a little hard sci fi, and it moves along without reading like something for young adults. How is Velocity Weapon? It's been on my list for a couple years.
What - in the middle of the story? Blasphemy! Start from the beginning! You know, like The Silmarillion...The Two Towers - Tolkien
2nd or 3rd time through this one, and reading it with my wife (who is a way bigger Tolkien nerd than I am). After a few false starts for books to read together, we landed on this one.
What - in the middle of the story? Blasphemy! Start from the beginning! You know, like The Silmarillion...Tolkien is absolutely my favorite author. Need to re-read those books again. But I could say that any time and have it be 100% accurate.
If you're unfamiliar, The Silmarillion is a very different book. Just a warning.Oh we already reread The Fellowship... 2 or 3 years ago. It just took awhile to circle back around to the series, and it's not like either of us would forget where we left off. I do have The Silmarillion on my shelf and I'll get to it... someday. Weirdly, we don't have The Hobbit, which should be remedied.

I'm a retired college woodworking instructor who STRONGLY recommends immersing yourself in hand tools and mastering sharpening. Having done so, machine woodworking will make a lot more sense.I'm studying up on cabinet making. I've made shelves, open boxes, and other assorted carpentry projects, but nice cabinets is something I've never tried. These days I finally have time and tools, so I'm going to give it a spin. It's the only thing I've not tried in any of my previous remodel opportunities, but time was always a factor and I didn't want to hold up progress so I could indulge in a vanity project.
