What are your thoughts on American Cheese ?

And here I was, thinking I was the only one who bought gruyere for years!

For me, American cheese is a little like yellow corn. People eat it often; but if you talk to most farmers, they'll tell you that it's what they feed their pigs (white corn is what people eat). American cheese is the slop that humans eat when they feel like being pigs. Nothing terrible about doing that once in awhile.

It's not like it isn't cheese; it just doesn't carry the SPIRIT of cheese (kind of like a Billy Sheehan solo IMHO).

Either corn is different in Cali or that's BS.

We grow lots of corn around here. I can drive four blocks and be in a corn field and I've had both sweet yellow corn and yellow/white mixed ears that rivals the best white corn. What you're thinking of is not necessarily white vs. yellow but feed corn vs. eating corn. Feed corn is yellow too but farmers around here are NOT out feeding the sweet yellow corn to the pigs and the grocery stores are NOT selling feed corn in their produce section. When it's really in season I'd put up the sweet yellow corn against anything.

Man, I'm debating corn. That's ridiculous and surreal. :scowl:
