What are your thoughts on reviving an old band in a different format?

For sure. Its less putting the band back together, and more of forming a new band with the drummer from that former band.
I was on the fence as to whether I wanted to re-use that old name because 1) I liked it, and 2) It'd have saved me the trouble of having to think up a new one.
I figured I would ask here and see what others thought, since I wasnt sure myself. After thinking on it some more, a new name seemed the better course of action. I even started a "name my band" thread, which is always an excercise in futility, lol.
Between that thread, and mentioning it in another in the lobby, Ive come up with a new name that I like a lot. I'll talk it over with my drummer tonight and get his opinion on it.

Late to the game, but FWIW my experience is that a new name is better to make all band members feel they are equally part of the band. Otherwise there may be a divide between the old and new members, and an assumption it's the old band members' band.

Actually, I wouldnt mind creating such a divide. It'll help establish order.

Anyways, I decided to go with a new name. I mentioned it to our drummer and a guitarist we auditioned Friday night, and they both dug it. It looks like this guitarist might end up in the band. The new name is Sapient Sun.
