It’s important to be strategic whenever you’re looking for a good deal on a specific product. Be patient. Watch the classifieds here, on Reverb, or especially on Craigslist or local Facebook Marketplace if you want to avoid shipping costs (which can add 50% or more to the price of a bass in the lower end of the market). All the while, you can save your money and potentially go after something that might be a little better.
In this manner I scored a SBMM Ray34CA for $200. It was a bit crusty and rusty (pickguard screws and pole pieces) but, with a good cleaning and setup is in near-mint condition.
