What?? Ash??

Is this an ash-bodied/ash-necked bass we have here??? Didn't even look at the f/board...Naturally,I would assume it's maple.

Opinions wanted....Does a bass with an ash neck (along with an ash body) just enhance the already "Heavenly tones" that an ash-bodied/maple-necked bass produces???

Ash necks have been done a bit (if that is one, it looks like it to me). Fodera make them, so do MTD. Its an excellent wood for a neck, and I think its cool to have something other than another maple neck.

As to tone, I dont want to start any arguments, but I cant see the neck making much difference in the tone. I'm in the process of building a bass with an ash neck at the moment, so will let you know when completed if it sounds any different to me. Logic makes me think that if the neck affected tone much, many basses would sound similar (which they dont IMO) as 90% have maple necks.

What was that thing about arguments I said? . Your probably right though, I hadn't considered graphite and the different tone they offer. Having said that theres a big difference between Graphite and wood, whereas the difference between Ash and Maple in density isnt large....http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/wood-density-d_40.html. I would guess its White ash like the Foderas (IIRC).

That definitely is an Ash neck and yes, we do make them and, IMHO they have a definite impact on the final sound of an instrument...

Christ'o'mighty!! My 'real deal '75 J-Bass (ash).... I seriously think I would give up the old lady for that bass.
No joke here,guys. Seriously,I have NEVER played ANYTHING like that bass. Swear to God,I get chills talkin' about that bass.

Agreed... all you have to do is play one in the flesh to "get it".

IME they're even brighter than Wenge. This particular bass is bright. If I had it I'd string it with Nickel rounds to try to rein it in a bit. I did the same with my Ash/Wenge MTD 635 with excellent results.

Malcolm's Hall's latest bass has an Ash neck but other woods were also used in the bass (Maple board IIRC) and it's actually very nice and not as bright as this one.

With the entire bass being Ash, there's an abundance (maybe an over-abundance to some) of Ash spank. Cuts like crazy.

Zoom in on the headstock pic... the board is Ash too. Preach called this one "Ashy McGee".
