hey guys i'm planning to play bass for church but i don't know which bass i should use. PRECISION,JAZZ,or ACTIVE.i've been hearing that the P-bass is a tool from the devil etc. So i wish everybody would do the poll

What Bass do YOU use for Church??

I use a 1966 Hagstrom HIIB (32" scale) most of the time and a 2010 SX 5-string J-bass the rest. Playing the SX today.

Passive P lately, although I've also used a passive 5, active/passive 6, fretless 4(passive), 5(active), 6(passive)& 7(active)as well as DB. For me it would depend largely on the instrumentation you'll be playing with & style of music, which can both vary widely from church to church as well as service to service.
LTD B206 active, Peavey Fury V active and RockBass Streamer Standard passive. I love the look and sound of Fenders but they just don't feel right in my hands.
I have to vote for "carrots." I use basses that are active and/or passive with pickup configurations of: soapbars, jazz, p-bass and J/MM. IMHO, there is no bass that is the single best one for Church.

Active 5. Most guys around here use Ibanez because they can be had for like $150 and the tiny necks helps their non-bass playing hands deal with size 
If it wasn't for mine instruments, but for a rental or something, I'd go with J bass as it's more universal in general way. However, my P-bass seems to have more clarity then most P's I've tried so I'd go with P-Bass. Besides, P with additional J pickup near bridge is still a P, so that would be my second pick...
P.S. We're talking about the church and after my vote there are 6 votes for each of three options... 666! :O

I've had a similar experience. A passive P did not work for my church setting. There was too much going on in the mix. I know a P is "focused" into the mix, but when other things are too it just gets muddy.
The Jazz worked fine. No trouble with it really.
I now play this:
It's very "active" and very wonderful! It seems to be able to work in any situation I am put in as well.

While this is slightly true it doesn't take away that Ibanez has put out some quality stuff.

What if you go to a METAL church?
I didn't vote. My answer is "it depends". Which bass fits right for the songs your church plays? Which bass fits right for how your church plays them? I bring a different bass depending on the songs and mix.

I use a USA Peavey Fury (P-bass). It's comfortable and gets the job done. I have used many other basses and with our less than stellar room acoustics and amplification, it really didn't matter which bass I used.
