What bass should i purchase for $800

I want to buy an active electric bass for around $800. I'm currently looking at the fender deluxe active jazz and the sterling ray34 active. Which bass is nicer, if not these then please suggest some others.

I use a Ray35, it's been phenomenal, I personally feel the tone was much richer and more clear that the fender deluxe jazz MIM, I'm able to cover a wide array of music using the eq on the Bass, and what I can't cover from just that I can tweak my amp to get, it's a very well built bass.

Shh. This is secret.

If you look at the prices on ebay - especially for an Elite -the secret is out! Man, some people are asking $2k for one of those! Even the non-Elites have prices in the clouds. These are good basses, and they're great basses "for the price" when that price is a few hundred bucks. Once they hit $1k? They're no longer any bargain and they start to compete out of their league with other used basses.

Go used and you'll get a lot more for your money. Plus, if you decide to sell at some point, you'll not lose anything.
