Man,was I disappointed! I wanted to try one out so bad in the early 90s and I finally got my hands on one.Man...it just felt like a big 2X4 with strings to me....
Who lnows? Maybe I would feel different about it now...

I would have to say a Pedulla buzz. I bought one back in 1989 from Rudy's Music in NYC.
What a beautifully made bass.
When played alone in a room either unplugged or through an amp , it sounded wonderful with lots of subtleties to the sound.
As soon as it got on a gig it just disappeared completely in the mix.
That plus the neck was so tiny My hand would cramp.

I've been disappointed with every spector I've played other than my NS4CR =\
I don't know why but they don't have the deep yet cutting mids the thing got; other basses sound fine but they also sound like my Yamaha TRB. The NS4CR has a sound all its own, but I also think mine is special and I'll never sell it.

Just thinking,.....that if all these basses could talk,.......they'd also be quite disapointed in most of those playing them.....

So true, so very true!They all find their special someone sometime though; A Ric should never go unwanted if these forums have anything to say about it.
For me the biggest disappointment was the three Fender Jazz basses I had tried and then sold. One issue or another kept me from really loving them but I still wanted that J bass. Magic hit with number 4 when I finally found the one that delivered on the promise.
Just thinking,.....that if all these basses could talk,.......they'd also be quite dissapointed in most of those playing them.....
Oh dear god. My basses would be putting their heads(tocks) together plotting my doom

Warwick Rockbass Streamer 4 string. The neck on the thing was like a Louiseville Slugger was caught in half. Woof. The action was nice and it had a decent tone plugged through an Ampeg B2RE.

90's Fender American Jazz. Now I've heard a few things about American versus foreign and 90's being better then what's available today.
Nope.
That G-String loved to fall out of the frets. Again, good tone and decent action but that G-String ruined all expectations I held for an American crafted Fender.

Spector rebop, wanted it forever .Buddy has one it looks great feels great i got it from him now it just sits,cant put my ol fender down.

I chose a Growler, made in USA. sooooo sexy. Every time I glanced at it i was in woodland
HORRIBLE neckdive, made the thing unplayable. That and the uneven string-to-string response.

I owned a Ibanez roadgear 900 for awhile... and just.. it was just.... muddy. no character to it at all. just.. bleh.
bought a fender p-bass on sale, i didnt think it was the greatest thing. it only had one pickup, it had two knobs, sitting next to all the ibanez's at the store, it just looked bland. but i loved the looks (light blue metallic, pearloid guard).
bought a schecter stiletto custom 5-string.. loved the looks, loved the 5 string, and the action. but i just COULD NOT get a good tone. i tried it all, pedals, amps, knobs.. it just had no soul, it had no character. it was just, again, bleh.
i sold it, bought a jazz. and loved it at first, but i only ever played with both pickups on. and in essence, realized i just loved the p bass. i loved its tone and its rock hard construction, so i put the jazz neck on the p bass and never looked back.

For me, it was also a Ric. This is not a slight against Rics, it is simply that I have been generally very pleased with my basses and have set my expectations reasonably for each (don't expect a Sadowsky from Squier I for example). The Ric I had very few complaints about to be honest, and I really loved a lot about it, but when it became apparent that I was only going to have one expensive nice bass in the stable for a while, I decided I needed it to be less ofa 9/10 and more of a 9.5/10. That being said when I become a famous rock star, I would defintely buy another one.
$5000 spector ns5. chunky neck, finish flaws, sounds lame next to a spector legend custom (unless you seek the upright bass tone), no detents for flat on the eq. and too heavy. johnny a. staind and yes i sent it back.
Fender Jazz Bass (MIA with S-1 switch)). I've always loved the classic look, and a lot of great players have used them. But I've found they sound thin, and most of the pickup combinations are terribly hummy. My favorite tone was with the S1 switch on - which pretty much tells you I'm better off with a Precision, or SOMETHING besides a Jazz Bass.
