what could be wrong?

Hi,

My fender 5 strings seem to go out of tune quite easily.

in general, may I know what could be wrong with it? Must I change the tuning pegs?

How far out of tune? All strings? All out of tune sharp or flat, by comparable amounts? Stable environment? Make/model of bass?

How many windings do you have around the tuner posts?

How long have you had them on the bass? As the string metal ages it becomes harder for the string to retain its tuning. How hard you attack the string also plays into the equation.

The strings are relatively new.

regarding my attack, it's pretty normal i guess. Not a hard hitter..

hmm they'll go out of tune by slightly less than 1/4 tone (flat) after 10minutes of playing.

Do you store them in a cool place? If you tune them when they're cool and they go flat when they warm up, that could be the problem.

Do you tune up to the note or do you ever go past the note and tune down? Does your nut bind much? Is this a Squier with possibly cheap tuners?
