What did 2012 teach you?

1. My appetites are a little out of control and I need to start paying attention to my health more.

2. I really do love my wife and I want to have a kid with her and truly 'settle down'.

3. I still have a lifetime of learning to do with regards to bass playing

4. Life is pretty good!

I learned my priorities were out of whack and am changing my life path from biology and chemistry (which I do love) to music production, for which I had been taking classes as a hobby. Now it's time to get serious with my true love. I just hope turning a passion into a career doesn't ruin it for me, but I am going to give it my all.

I also learned it's taking us (singer and myself) forever to get a full band going; got a percussionist though! Non-douchey guitarist is still in the works.

I learned to have higher expectations of people in general and specifically people here on Talkbass. We were able to talk about some subjects that are potential powder kegs. There was a lot of different views on some subjects but we pulled it off without too much drama. In general it is a great group of people here. I think most of you know what I am talking about. :hiding: :p

You are referring to the "Ask a liar anything" thread of course! :D :hyper:

I learned a very painful life lesson... Never mix business with pleasure...

I landed an awesome job in early 2011, also met what I htought was the woman of my dreams... So we worked at the same company, no big deal until later on she became my boss. We sat down and discussed this and agree it would be ok. Late summer of 2011 we were almost engage, but ran into a few issues.

Long story short, we broke up in April 2012 (a few days after my birthday) and then she found a way to get me fired in Sept...

Very hard life lesson learned, never mix business with pleasure. 2012 sucked...

2012 taught me a lot.

The biggest lesson I learned is that life is precious and I need to enjoy each day as much as I can, and be thankful for what I have.

My wife was involved in a serious car accident in October 2012 and I feared I would lose her.

My friend John died at 48 years old on Christmas Day.

My friend Ed died at 51 years old in April.

My son was hospitalized in November after a suicide attempt. Still reeling from that one.

I learned that I have a lot of work to do with my son to prepare him for his life as a teenager/young adult.

My wife's cousin committed suicide 4 days ago, the memorial service was tonight.

There were a whole lot of lessons in 2012 for me, but they all lead toward showing me that each day is gift and I should open my eyes more to appreciate what I have, and not to take anything for granted. Plus I learned that my family needs me and I need them.

2011 was my last year of a child like innocence. 2 weeks into the year I started dating a amazing singer and songwriter. I loved her dearly, was in college and had a blast with my band. We got engaged.

Early 2012, she left for a 2 month vacation and never returned, we dated 18 months which was my longest relationship. I graduated college and prepared for a move. I grew alot that year, out of success and heartbreak. I am a little more jaded but that maybe what a young man needs going out into the world on his own.

2013 should be a blast.
