What do I want?

Well plans fell through.

I had plans to build a second rig consiting of an Whappo or whappo jr, demeter vtbp-201s and crown xti2000. (my other rig is aggie db750 + gs210 + gs212)

Unfortunately when i got the amp together I didn't like the way it sounded at all through my aggie cabs. Plus I was very underwelmed with the power of the crown.

So i need a new plan.

I'm still hooked on a whappo or jr. but I'm clueless as to the amp.

One option is to buy a used crown macrotech 2400. But it's soooo heavy.

So I think I'm going for a smaller amp.

Aggie ag500sc seems logical since I love my db750. But does it have the muscle to use the whappo or jr. to the max?
Genzbenz, Ea seems to have solutions in the same pricerange
Markbass, epifany and prbably a lot of other stuf I don't know.

Help me out guys. I need it :-)

I have a Macrotech 1200 and really like it - very reliable power - I have used that with up to 2 15's and 4 10's and that gives me PLENTY of volume. The Macrotech's are heavy beasts but they sound awesome. I don't know if you're totally sold on the Demeter, you might want to check out a different preamp - I used a Demeter 201 for many years but ended up switching to a Sansamp RPM - I found that it gives me more "center" to my sound even at clean settings. The Demeter always seemed a litle thin to me (IMHO)

if i had a 750 i would use that as the poweramp! have you tried the demeter straight into the poweramp in or effects return of the 750? you may like that better.

the aggie preamp is also available as a seperate unit if you really dig that sound. i personally like the demeter better as i find it to be a bit cleaner. the aggie is sorta woolly sounding to me but still cool. What precisely didn't you like about the demeter sound?

Crowns require a pretty high input voltage. Probably why it was so quiet. Not sure what the output is of the VTBP though so can't say for sure.

Yamaha blows Crown away with pretty much everything :). also, the Crest CA6 seems to be really suited for instrument amps (with the .775vrms input voltage).

Also, the tone shaping of that preamp is supposedly not amazing. Either you like it or you don't from what I hear (Haven't tried one!).

I would suggest you get a GBE750 :) Just a great all-around amp and reasonably priced especially used.

i disagree (nicely)..........:D

i did an extensive comparison of the aggie and demeter preamps, some directly through the 750 poweramp section (as well as a few other preamps)

if anything the demeter has more eq range than the aggie (except for the ultra low boost on the aggie) The midrange of the demeter seems to have a lot more sweep to it than the aggie. both are great units though, it's just a matter of taste

Well the demeter sounded a bit thin compared to the 750. But that could be the crowns fault. And i did find myself turning down the highs on the demeter quite a bit.

I'll try hooking my demeter up to my 750's powersection to see if hat makes the demeter better. Good advice!

I'm debating the demeter/macrotech2400 vs the ag500 or markbass LMII

i have a jr. it is a pretty efficient 4ohm box, the aggie500 will be
all you would need to maximize 1 jr.

i run a 300w tube head with a jr......this rig will fill a big room, do well
outside, & will torch a small club! the tone is killer

just FYI, IIRC, the presence control on the demeter is boost only. that means it is only "flat" when all the way to the left. this could have been your problem. Switching the bass frequency control also helps beef things up.
