What do you base your self worth on ?

Self-worth is not dependent upon who we are,
what we do, what we have, or what anyone thinks about us.

It is also independent from what we think of ourselves, because our highest thoughts fall woefully short.

Self-worth is intrinsic, like a diamond has beauty.
You can dip a diamond in slug, but it's still a diamond and the beauty remains.

If you let your environment dictate your self-worth then your value will be subject to the whims of your environment
and you will never reach beyond.

So to answer the OP's query, There is nothing for me to base my self-worth on,
because it is a priceless intrinsic gift for which there is no measuring stick.

The value is immeasurable and to base it on anything here is reduce it to the common and the vain.

Spoken like a prophet.

So does that mean your self worth is about equal to any other human being?

Self worth, for myself and anyone IMHO, comes from achievements. What you choose to do (or not do) and its impact on the world is what self-worth comes down to.

Wow \MM/ this is definitely one of your better questions.

To be honest, I don't commonly think about what I use to put value to my existence. I don't always use one way or another, sometimes it just depends on how much sleep I've had. Sometimes I base it on my future prospects to just make a good family...sometimes they look good, other times they look dull. Other times I base it on how much progress I make in learning something, or in outward signs of how others value me for either my skills or just my existence.

Recently I've been basing it more on my piano skills, and whether or not I exceed my piano instructor's expectations or those of my other peers. Since you asked this question, I googled a bit on the related topic of self esteem, and I came up with this specific article: http://www.apa.org/monitor/dec02/selfesteem.html
And the combination has been forcing me to re-evaluate my paradigm regarding the value of humanity.

Damn you made me reconsider a part of my paradigm. Time to consult my incredibly perceptive roommate for more help on introspection.
