This week my sister sent me a gift, and with it came a care package of some food. Fruit, peanutbutter, some sausages. You know, staple kind of stuff.
But in with the good stuff was a bunch of rice. Uncle Ben's, Zatarain's, others. A lot of it.
The thing is, I don't like rice. At all. During my childhood I absolutely hated the stuff. People often say rice is bland, but the little bit of flavor it does have I found disgusting.
In my adult years as my palate has changed, the disgust has faded, but I still don't like it. It tastes bad, the various textures most people cook it to are unpleasant (my preference has been describe as "overcooked") and there is nothing about rice which I find enjoyable to eat.
As a stand alone dish there is nothing to recommend it. As a filler there are other options that taste better, have better texture, and look better.
I do not keep rice in my home, and outside of it I never touch the stuff.
What should I do with all this rice?
