What do you think? (FrankenFender Art Pr0n)

So I picked up a Frankensteined Fender from Captain Simian here about a week ago. Its a Highway One Precision Bass neck and a custom body. Its also got DiMarzio P-Bass pickups in it as well.

This thing is goddamned ugly. Its so ugly it actually looks good.

However, I didn't really like the mirror PG so I had a friend do some doodling on it. This is how it looks now.

I'm getting it back in a few days.

i think the mirror PG looks miles better than that hankerchief one.the big stripe is probably the best feature though

The pickguard is still a mirror although it now has a paisely design.

The bass isn't supposed to be pretty. Its so ugly that its good looking I think.

Sounds really really good. Plays... well.. it plays. It needs some fret work for when I play with a pick. Otherwise the whole neck rattles! After some fretwork, she should be a great player.

I reckon you should either leave the pickguard off altogether (depending on the routing) or put the proper one back on.

Thats the original mirror pick guard on it. I came up with the design and my friend etched it into the mirror and then inked it. He still wants to do a sealer coat, so I should have this back by Thursday or Friday depending on when I can pick it up.

FWIW it doesn't look as blurry in real life. Camera problems when trying to photograph the mirror, plus all those smudges from wiping off the ink. It'll be shiny again when its done.

Also, there isn't any wood beneath that pickguard. I was going to replace it with a tort guard but this is costing me about $8.49 (cost of the sealer)
