Sorry to resurrect an old thread but i got an email yesterday for 50% off lifetime membership deal since i have been with SBL for a couple years. Sadly, pricing has tripled. Its now $497 for a lifetime membership. o_O

Oh wow that's... quite a lot. But I think it's still less than what Hubbard asks for perpetual access. (Just comparing the prices, not the value, I don't exactly know what's in Fred Hubbard's offer).
I'm currently doing Scott's Practice Accelerator and feel like I'm totally getting what I paid for. But that's an extra, not in SBL.

Regardless of price, I think SBL is a great value. I have practice accelerator and bass technique accelerator in addition to the regular SBL courses.

Wow, I guess I got in at the right time....

At this point in MY "career", I doubt that I'd pay that. 3 or 4 years ago, I probably would have. I feel like I've extracted every important (to me) thing that I can from SBL. I know what my technique leaks are and work on them as I can. I'm not the type that needs validation from an instructor to know if I'm on track or not, so I participate pretty strictly as a viewer only in SBL land.

Don't get me wrong - I'm glad I can poke around in the different sections and view the content, but at this point, I rarely get any information that directly influences my efforts - it's more like reinforcement if anything. But I also have a very long musical background (40+ years) before taking up bass including college level theory and have plenty of real world experience regarding my role in a band and how to "speak" music.

The best way is the lifetime membership. I think it was about $250 ( dont remember). About the price of 2 years.

As i said above its now $497... but if you plan to stick around its well worth the investment.

I just started really playing this year and grabbed an SBL membership. It's... nabbad. Definitely feel like it's worth the $120 for a year. (I mean, really, that's like... 2 hours of private instruction?) Not sure if it's worth $500 for lifetime access though. (I can see growing beyond what I can learn from a prepackaged website in 2-3 years.)

As a marketer, some of his marketing tactics make me cringe as being the worst examples of Internet (we are brilliant but we are not telling you why till you sign up) snake oil marketing - but I guess there are exceptions to the rule - This snake oil actually works!

You got it pretty spot-on there. Bottom lines for me are: 1. There is a fair bit of hard sell going on. 2. There's a ton of good stuff there, whatever level you're at (and that got better with the recently introduced Players Path (included in the price)). 3. It can be hard to stay focussed on one or two things, when there's so much on offer (but Players Path helps with this). 4. It's hugely valuable to be able to actually watch good players' technique close up. (You'd be surprised how many bad bass habits you have). 5. I got lifetime membership a year or so ago, for around £120, after my first year, which I regard as a massive bargain. Not sure of current prices or business model, but I assumed it was standard to be offered lifetime after a year.

Having said all that, I also use Joe Hubbard's YouTube and a few of his books. If you follow Joe to the letter, you can't help but improve both your playing and your understanding.

Hello,
I'm wondering to buy a single course, someone knows the cost for a single one?

Tks
Andrea
It really doesn't work like that.

There is probably still a two week free trial period so you can go in an see what he offers, then you can figure out which courses/content is of value to your needs. Unless you're a very advanced player, you'll probably find that there's a year or two's worth of stuff to explore. The value may reduce after that (it did for me), but since I got a lifetime membership a few year's ago, I can hop in and out as I please. I doubt that I would have paid the current lifetime membership price though.

Be aware - he's discovered automated marketing and will SPAM you to tears. I like Scott, but am going to have to cut off his Emails pretty soon.

I just got an email offering "The Definitive Beginners Guide to Bass Guitar" for $72. Fully downloadable, and 30 day money back guarantee?? Email says offer only stands for 72 hours. I'm wondering if I'm better off with that vs. monthly...
If that's all you want from his catalog, then probably.

But there is a lot of other stuff - I'd say it took me 2-3 years of regular browsing to view all of the content I was interested in.
