what effects does jaco Pastorius use?

I have a digitech BP80 and its really good with mixing a lot of different effects together.

I want to get this thing to sound like jaco Pastorius
besides the obvious sound of a fretless bass
Does anyone know what effects he uses?

"This thing" isn't going to sound like Jaco. You're not going to get "this thing" or any "thing" to sound like him - ever. Get it?

The thing everybody likes to tell you but is afraid of doing (or so it seems): Jaco was all about tone from the man himself. Only effects he used was the distortion in his Acoustic amp and a 2 second delay set to infinity. Other effects on studio albums were added in the studio.

But the main thing were his left and right hand.

Rather then starting a new thread (and it is on the subject), what was the type of reverb he used in Chromatic Fantasy? Reason I ask is that I'm doing this piece for year 12 and need to get as close to the tone as possible for better marks. I have a TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb. At the moment it's sounding pretty close with a 'Hall' reverb. Any input?

Are you kidding? Do you get better marks if your reverb sounds exactly like the one Jaco used? If that is the case i would like to have a word with your teacher

haha no. i'm a bit of a perfectionist part of the requirement is to capture the tone of each song you play. obviously playing the song well is the main part. for example, i wouldn't play a Jamerson song with a trebly Jaco sound.

Bro, they don't care about tone in the HSC (or the equivalent in your state, I'm guessing VCE?) so long as they can hear it. A generic hall reverb will convey the message perfectly. Just relax and have fun and you should get great marks - especially playing Jaco.

Umm...I knew he was revered for his technical ability, but do you guys like his tone too? I haven't listened to too much of his stuff, (not a jazz fan) but what I have heard I didn't think was a great tone.

(If this is sacrilege and I must die...so be it.)

There’s a nasal quality to his tone that tugs at your heart strings. People who don’t like Jaco’s tone are the same people who don’t cry watching “Lorenzo’s Oil”.
