What effects/filters are a must have?

I have the MXR Phase 100 and love it. It's more tweakable then the 90 to get just the right tone, but still simple enough for a knuckle dragger like myself to understand.

The Phase 100 is a great phaser, better for bass than the Phase 90 IME.

For delay, I use a Danelectro delay unit (can't recall the name right now) - but I don't use it on bass often.

The Electro Harmonix Memory Man is a fantastic delay unit that one of our guitarists has used for years - the Memory Boy looks like a smaller footprint version. Not sure how it would be for bass, but it is crazy tweakable.

Other then what you've already decided on, I would say a good chorus and phaser. I have both a flanger and phaser on my board, but tend to like using the phaser more. It's a more subtle effect that compliments the bass where as the flanger takes control and goes off into outer space.

Thanks for the input, I don't think I used a dedicated phaser before, but will check one out for sure. The chorus is a must have for me. I hope the EBS with both chorus and Flange will be what I am looking for.

From what I heard, the MXR Envelope filter sounds great - to me it's a good mix of clean and juicy, which is good for a lot of situations like a cover band.

Also, you might want to consider the Soundblox bass envelope filter - has a lot of different sounds, which could be good to cover some of the synthier stuff for the 80s music.

Also would recommend an octaver - surprised you're not looking to add one to your board. I personally love the OC-2, but it's not true bypass.

What basses are you using these days? You may not need the compression depending on your rig.

I have Lakland 5502 on order ( natural body/neck/board ). I've been dying to get one since I played yours. I did buy an Alembic Elan a few years ago. But it was a four string, and I am into 5's and possibly a 6 in the future. I was going to go back to MMSR5'er but I really like the Lakland pipckup selection, and the versatility. But I'm sure you know that.

OC-2 is three knob - dry, oct1, and oct2. I never use the oct2. Aguilar Octamizer has good versatility - can be smooth or get growly like the OC-2.

Definitely PM me when you're unloading... need me some dirt and some chorus...

I, like most, am an addict! So I have lots of pedals (way tooo many). But to be honest with you; with my SVT - no pedals requred. When I'm carrying around the GB I use a Colordrive and OD made by Vintage FX. (Think BRMC)

my sansamp bddi provides a few different functions. it is a tube amp emulator, if i don't feel like bringing my amp i can plug into the house or go house + amp and its an OD.
compressor is also a must for me and i would love a compressore but $ is tight and i have a seymour duncan doubleback that's doing what i need it to.
for filters i love my ebs bassiq. i just bought a 3leaf proton to replace the old ebs b/c i always wanted a mutron but that ebs is really holding it's ground so far, i may have to keep them both for a while or just sell the ebs quick to get it outta my mind.

Well I thought I was settled on a list of pedals. Not so much.

Ok, this is what I am looking at. Aguilar Tone Hammer - Aguilar Agro - EBS UniChorus - Soundblox Fliter or MXR Fliter. I have a Boss Octave that I may switch up for the Aguilar Octomizer. And I have a Boss Delay, but I saw a Delay/reverb by Boss that I wanted to try D7 I believe.

Not sure if I will need the Agro if I buy the Tone Hammer. Since the Hammer has the AGS- boost/distortion. I like the idea of the Hammer because of all the options. I can use it as a DI, I can switch my bass passive and use that preamp, I can run it to the front of he amp or too the Effects Loop. Plus it has the AGS so there is a distortion.

I have the Agro and love it. It's an aggressive sound though, maybe not for everyone. It can do subtle, but doesn't really sound vintage. The tone hammer is sweet. Just know that kicking in the AGS circuit boosts your volume a bit more than some people can stand, with no way to adjust.

Great bit of info!!! Thanks!! Well I like the Agro as a direct replacement for the Ibanez bass distortion. Which was aggressive. I would buy another Ibanez bass distortion, but think the Agro will be a better choice. I also have a Frantone fuzz that is a little subtle/Vintage.

Good looks on the AGS. I will take a look online to see if they can give me a DB amount of boost with the AGS. For some reason the Tone Hammer calls my name I love the name and to applications. Its something I can easily live without, but when the time comes I will be glad I have one.

LOL!! Yes!! Well I am trying to do as much as I can pre purchase to ensure I keep what I purchase. I have a good idea of what I am looking for, and don't have the cash/time to try everything under the sun. But I will be shopping the TB classifieds, and only purchasing new in desperation. But none of this items are holding me back, so I am not in a hurry.
