What envelope filter is used in this song?

Wow! I paid no mind to Joss Stone before. But that song is incredible. Great groove, and her delivery fits it perfectly.

The bass effect sounds like vintage BassBalls. But mostly it's the expert playing.

Also I think I hear a little subharmonic octave added in.

Thanks for hipping me to that song.

It's tough to say, but it's surely one with a big resonance.

I think there's more going on then just an envelope filter. There's probably an overdriven preamp or something to give it some high frequency fuzz, followed by a filter of something.

There's probably some in-the-box stuff going on, and I'll bet that's where the filter is. There may be some doubling with a 'sub-bass' on keys or programmed in to give it a bit more depth... Who knows? There's tons of possible stuff going on that would end in that sound.

That said, the Bass Balls is a good candidate.

To me it sounds like it is re-amped and then compressed. Dry bass, out to filter with compression an EQ. Could be wrong, but that is my take.

As for the pedal, My old bassballs kinda sounded like this, but it was too quacky. Same with my FX25. If it was this pedal, I can only imagine how hard it was to get that tone out of them. Maybe volume pedal before, then filter, then boost to get the level back up into a tube amp.
