What is an user friendly recording software

+1 again for Reaper. User-friendly enough to learn quickly, yet has enough features to rival the commercial offerings.

Is there any shareware recording software that allows you to mix in real time rather than making adjustments and then waiting for the whole file to be rewritten in order to hear them? I have GoldWave, but no realtime EQing.

How do you like the bass amp models in this? I was looking at it cuz i'm a newbie and I want something I listen to/practice through my headphones/Apple Powerbook that will also allow me some recording capability. I understand it will work in a mac environment and works well with garageband. They also tout it as being functional as a pre amp for your rig. HOw much of this is true or is there something else you would recommend?
