What is it with Harley Davidsons ?

Each time you hear one pass by , say that infamous "F" word !

Boomer scooters.

I loved my Suzuki GSXR750 when I still rode. I rode my buddies BMW gs1500 and fell in love. It's sadly out of my budget range these days but it was a superior ride.

That being said if I buy another motorcycle it will only be a Indian bagger. I've always wanted one and yeah, it's the image and tradition of it.

No such thing as BMW GS1500. There are GS 1100s 94-2000ish, 1150 (2000ish to 2005) and 1200s. (2005 to present)

The noise is a defense mechanism. It's actually a good way to keep from being merged on top of ( well, it HELPS.. but dumb people still drive our roads... ) I've no problem with loud motorcycles. Not to be a big downer but my brother was killed by a motorist who "didn't see him". If the noise helps save a life. It's all good in my book.

Majority of motorcycle crashes occur from the front of the bike. If loud pipes truly saved lives, shouldn't they be facing forward? Loud pipes do nothing but annoy those behind you.

110,000 HARD miles on my Roadglide. I have one customer that has 135,000 on his 2003 Classic.

The Japanese bikes will run a long time with proper maintenance, but most do not get it.

European bikes have no life, cool bikes but built bad and no parts support.

Please explain the thousands of BMW motorcycles still on the road. BMW also still supplies parts for many of them. There are many many BMW riders with vintage machines that have lasted several hundred thousand miles with regular maintenance. Moto Guzzi has thousands of vintage bikes on the road as well.

Not much.

But that is like asking custom bass builder how much HIS bass costs.

The point is, it can be done reliably.
Can you almost triple the power of any other bike and still have it reliable?

Good point. If one has the mechanical know-how and patience to modify a machine like that, more power to them. I grew up around Euro bikes. The mechanics had stunning machines and access to the tools and equipment they needed to make top tier performance. However, nowadays most riders do not have this knowledge and would have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to have similarly performing machines. I think for the average rider, to spend the time and money to soup up a Harley would be a bad investment.

Tons? more like ounces
They didn't sell tons of them in the US.
Oh, and TRY to get parts for them.

Right they didn't sell too many in the U.S., but those they did sell, I would estimate a majority are still running.

And yes, trying to get parts for a loop frame is difficult, but they are out there, just not from Guzzi HQ.

Excellent point.

The obvious smartass answer is "what other bike do you need to triple the HP on?" :D
If you could double an outta the box GSXR1000 it would have more BHP than a MotoGP bike!

Seriously though he drag racing success of Harley Davidson kinda speaks for itself. I've always wondered what would have been the result of a long term commitment to top level road racing....

What rubbish, I have not denigrated anyone, all I have done is explore the reasons for the popularity of Harleys, how is that making fun .
Why such a defensive post ?

I think its cool that such a huge group of people around the world can be so passionate about a company that has refused to conform to modern idealism and stuck to its core beliefs and is still successful in this day and age .

The hell you didn't! This is what you wrote:

That is such a stupid comment, as if you are superior, everybody has the right to expand their knowledge and learn from others

Are you fluent in English, or just in "troll"?
