Actually, my initial reaction was to write a "more useful" reply, but the OP´s statement about really not having "the luxury of time" p.´d me off a tiny bit.
I only started playing bass 2 1/2 years ago and had lots of questions back then - and I found the answer to most of them by using the Search button.
BTW, I do appreciate asking "old" questions to get new input - it makes sense as far as, for instance, experiences with certain equipment are concerned. But the differences between a J and a P haven´t changed for more than 40 years.
Sorefinger i'm sorry man if you were offended by that statement. I was just hurt by the first reply, followed by the next. It has been quite sometime that i logged here. It just so happen that when i scan my old magazines the j and p thing just came to my mind, and what better way to know the answer is through my bass community (which you are guys). that's why i asked.
By the way i made that thread, and read the replies (with excitement, only to be frustrated with the first reply as well as the next) in the middle of my class (I'm a teacher by profession) during the reporting of my students. that's the reason for the "luxury of time" (i don't have an internet connection at home only during classes time, or in my workplace). Being here for me is a luxury, because i'm not earning.
