I once bought a custom set of Chromes from a UK vendor. Since Daddario don't do a 45-65-86-105 set, putting one together here costs the equivalent of just over $100.

Which is why I shop with Rocket Music in Virginia - that custom set of Chromes is $46 (before the nearly-universal discount Greg will give to anyone who asks)

Think it's weird D'addario doesn't do a straight up set of 45-105 flatwounds. La Bella does, GHS, S.I.T, DR and Rotosound as well. And others not mentioned.

Both perceived and actual tension for 45-65-85-105 Chromes is a bit high - people would buy the set thinking oh 45-105 is my standard, and then find it a bit much for them. I think their 40-60-80-100 set is for that kind of customer. I doubt Daddario want to release another set of Chromes, but if they did, 45-60-80-105 would be a better choice. Btw, I've got a similar 40-55-75-100 set on the go and I'd definitely recommend that too, very balanced feel, total tension just under 160 lbs.

Back in December 2018 I bought a set of TI Jazz Flats for $61.96. Loved that set of strings, and I would like to buy another set someday.

Recently bought my second set of TIJFs; the first set is long gone. I paid $99.99 to Sweetwater for this set. Didn’t hurt because I had a gift card haha.

That reflects a 20% increase in the price of the strings (inflation adjusted). That’s pretty wild.

A few months ago I ordered two sets of GHS Solidwound Boomers from a US-based online dealer (no name mentioned). $56.21 USD with shipping to Canada. A couple of weeks later, the mailman rang the doorbell and informed me I had an invoice from Canada Customs for $937.69 CAD for import taxes and fees for the package!

As it turns out, there was a clerical error with the order, when the "value" of the item inside the package was indicated on the label as "$5621.00", which worked out to be $7731.12 CAD after the exchange.

I had no choice but to return the package so the deal could resend them with the right amount for the "value". They were very apologetic for the mistake and offered me an additional discount. So, all was good in the end.
