I expect ANY instrument - guitar or bass to not only work, but work well for $1200. That's like saying a Lexus for $40k is a Steal. No it isn't.
A high end Nissan for $20k is a Steal - and will work every Biot as well as the Lexus.

So Looked at the Lull sight. He is a custom builder it appears at a glance, so yeah - a 1200 dollar one is probably a sweet 70% off list or more. I'm sure it performs. But since in two other posts I said a used G&L was over the Price Line and a $500 limit....
Let me clarify: I can get on stage and play a 300 dollar guitar or a 3000 dollar guitar (I have both, and guitars more and less expensive). My definition of a Price-Performer is something that works completely effectively for the job, feels good and is reliable, and sounds well above it's class. The Harley Bentons mentioned were noted as such. Like I said - after $1k or $1500; Would anyone really in a blind listening test say it plays better or sounds better than said G&L??? Or a really well set up Ibanez? With replacement pickups?
So I do not want a "Pro" bass as I am not even a "Pro" guitar player....
But if there is one thing I know about guns and guitars, after a certain price....say 5-800 dollars, almost all of them out perform the user.
Apologies for bringing knowledge and experience from elsewhere! I will adhere to only things I learn here in the future, and will not criticize based on ridiculous parameters I have set elsewhere in the thread.

To be honest I did not read the whole thread...I never saw where you said there was a price limit. So take that into consideration.
I responded to you responding to me about Lull and yes $1200 for a Lull is a steal. You can pretty much ask that to anyone who has been on this site for a while.
As far as G&L would anyone really in a blind listening test says it plays or sounds better after $1K or $1500....
Well I can tell you from a playing perspective (Ironically) I have professional associations to both G&L and Mike Lull so YES, they do play very different. So yes there is %100 a difference.
The G&L is fine but the Lull is like butter to play.
So yes you can take an inexpensive instrument and make it sound different, playing is a whole different animal.

Hey quick question for you. Why don't we see more of these out in public being used? I mean, they've got great features, and Leo certainly designed them to be an improvement over his previous "children". I don't get it.
Good question but I'm afraid there isn't any logical answer.
All I know is that I'd read about the L2000 for four years here and yet I simply couldn't believe the hype...until I finally tried one three years ago.
Could it be something that simple, that you just don't see them hanging up everywhere you go?
Tell me more about these pickups. I have 30+ guitars and 4 basses. Almost none have stock pickups....
OK - so I thought it would be easy to find a simple black/white PJ Squire. It wasn't. You guys did offer a GREAT batch of alternatives though! Yamaha, Ibanez, that sparkly Harley Benton and a couple others all came close. Anyway, I held out and this is what I found...$150. See thread on Squire P Bass Special for details.
