What is your "go to" router?

PC is like the Ford F-150...made their name on durability and performance, and for most the rep is all that matters. Anyone who says the Bosch routers are somehow less than a PC knows very little about routers. There are too many side by side comparisons and reviews to back it up.
Face it Tom you are a brand loyal PC guy, and I can thin of much worse brands to be loyal to...LOL. Enjoy it.

Virtually the entire router aftermaket is tailored to Porter Cable routers - you can obtain accessories that are compatible with Porter Cable routers without modification virtually everywhere in the USA. When I detached the factory baseplate from my Bosch router, I found threads with which I could attach a Porter Cable baseplate, enabling me to use Porter Cable guide bushings, which I like a lot more than Bosch guide bushings.

Festool makes great gear. Very high quality, serious attention paid to dust collection, and their systainers are fantastic. Great for pros, difficult to justify financially for hobbiests and occasional users; they are very expensive and their prices are tightly controlled. Festool accessories can be hard to find, and aren't as widely distributed as Porter Cable.

Dewalt 618 (I think it's a 618, pretty sure, with all the different bases I need to do what I want).

Though, I broke a collet because the 1/4" collet needed to be super tight not to slip the bit. Never a problem with the 1/2" collet. Rock solid motor, great control, acceptable noise level, and overall I'm stoked on it. PC are great, too, as are Bosch (I like their smaller routers, laminate trimmers, better than many other brands).

Festool machines are the Lie Nielson power equipment. Only, I'd feel like I'm getting more from Festool with the dust collection and all. Not to bash LN, but with proper honing and lapping, one not need spend so much for a more than adequate tool, IMO.

If I had the money, an R9 pin router would be choice. Anything that drops the head, opposed to raising the table. Pneumatic actuation of the head, with predetermined stops and very decent final depth adjustment at ease, can't beat it. Can't compromise on that heavy footprint and price tag, either. Oh, pin routers, how I love the. I love Bar Refaeli, too, but I'll prolly have a pin router in this lifetime.

I got a big chunk of nice Quilted Maple there and they have some cool figured Ipe. I hadn't seen that before.

Figured Ipe you say?

Its gonna make one schweet fingerboard!

I'm a big fan of the Bosch 1617EVSPK combo setup.

Also, Tom, if you've never been to Utter Guys in Sanford then you should definitely check them out. Great deals and no waiting for shipping.

Ditto here. This is what I use. Plus a Bosch Colt for finer work. Plus a Dremel for finer+ work.

I think the Bosch is the more attractive router. The Bianchi Green and Aluminum go well together, and they highlight the Red "Bosch" brand very well. It's a much more sophisticated look than the standard grey and black of Porter-Cable.

JUUUUUST kidding! Relax, forum nazis . . .

I like the Bosch stuff. The Downside that I've found with Bosch is that aftermarket add-ons, accessories, etc. are often not adaptable (out of the package without mods) to the Bosch series of routers, but always to the Porter Cable brand.

So, while I feel that Bosch makes the better stuff, I often wish I had Porter just to make my search for needed add-ons easier.

Just sayin . . .
