I use roundwound strings. I use to use nickle-plated roundwound strings for their warm rich sounds. and nowadays I use stainless steel roundwound strings cause I wanted my bass guitars to have more punch and clarity. I currently use dunlop stainless steel strings. these strings are affordable and has great sound quality. I honestly would recommend them.

I've used roundwound D'Addario XL's (currently 165's on my P-Bass) since the early 80's. I don't have the cash to throw away on string experimentation. I don't know what another string would do for me. Seems I don't LONG for anything I don't already have.
In a 3-piece cover rock/variety band, so I need all the zing I can get. I can always EQ out some treble but I usually don't.
Flats might be OK in a jazz or 6-piece band of some sort, but I feel I need to be more of a rythmn section PLUS an instrumental tone to put in the mix. I used flats in a Motown/Soul/Horn band in the late sixties and they worked fine, but then at that time I was putting more rhythm and thump in than anything else.

I just switched to Elixir nano webs after about 8 years with D'Addario and 3 years with Ernie Ball hybrid slinky's. The Elixirs are the best strings I've ever used. They sound great, feel incredible and last forever. I wish I had just paid the extra money and tried them out sooner. I'll never go back to normal strings. I couldn't be happier with the Elixirs.

I've only used roundwounds since I started in '94.

I don't play a particular brand exclusively, but I use Elites Stadium and Rotosound Swing '66 more often than I do others. I also like Ernie Ball, D'Addario, Dean Markley, Dunlop, Fender, Galli and Warwick strings.

I'm yet to try GHS, Elixir and La Bella. Maybe soon!

Currently using Elites on my Warwick SS (50.70.90.110) tuned Eb standard and on my Peavey Miletone I (45.65.85.105) also tuned Eb standard. Rotosound Swing '66 on Fender Precision (45.65.80.110) standard tuning and D'Addario Nickel on Yamaha RBX 1997 (40-125) standard tuning.
