What Pedal Is He Using?

I've been tasked at learning Brother to Brother by Gino Vannelli. All is fine and learnt but was curious as to know if anyone was to know how the bass sound was generated in the bass and call and response? I know its Jimmy Haslip on bass but not sure if it was him or Leon Gaer playing this line? Can anyone help me out?

Obviously if it was Leon Gaer playing the solo then it kind of makes this thread a moot point.

The bass at around 4:40 sounds like slightly overdriven plus some phaser on top of it.
