Double Bass What pre-amp for Underwood?

I have an Underwood pickup on my bass, which I play through a Roland Cube 60.

It has too much high end in its present configuration.

Is there a graphic EQ or a pre-amp I can put in between my pickup and amp that would smooth out the tone and help me get more bottom end?

Yes, there is. The Fishman Pro EQ Platinum works quite well. It's a five-band equalizer with several other functions in addition to the EQ. I also use an Underwood, and the Fishman preamp provides a big improvement in tone. For me, it also produces a slight increase in volume before feedback occurs; not much, but slight.

Most piezo pickups will have too much high end to start with - that's the nature of contact pickups (Put your ear against the bass as you play to hear what the pickup is hearing).
However if the impedance is too low on your amp input, that can also suck a whole lot of low end out of your sound. That may be part of the issue with your Roland.
If the issue is impedance matching, just about any stomp box or other piece of circuitry will do it, e.g. Boss Bass graphic eq, or one of the tiny DIY circuits fdeck posted a while back. Of course there's lots of specialist preamps out there desigined to do what you want, but I'd suggest you borrow a stomp box or two in case that sorts it out more simply.

When I use the Underwood on its own I just use a Boss Bass EQ pedal as a preamp, and usually cut out some of the highs. If the gig is not too loud (or various other feedback factors allow for it) I use an SDSystems mic with their blender box which the pickup plugs straight into, along with the mic.
